About the event
Event Type: Official
Mandō-E Memorial Lantern Rite is an annual religious event held every August in Agon Shu Buddhism. In this special event, memorial lanterns are lit together, and mass prayers are held to serve, honour, and heal one's ancestors in their afterlife.
This tradition of memorial lantern is based on Buddhist teachings and is one of the highest forms of ancestral dedication or veneration, known as Senzo Kuyō, because the Agon Shu Buddhist Temple righteously enshrines the True Relics of Sakyamuni Buddha, the source of the Buddha's Power of Liberation, as its main votive monument. Hence, by illuminating your lantern in memory and honour of your ancestral souls in our temple, it will guide your ancestors to the restful Realm of the Buddhas, alleviating their posthumous pain. As a result of this ancestral healing, your kindness and immense support to your ancestors will be repaid with prosperity and fortune…
